Freshii in the FiDi

At 9:39 am yesterday I received an e-mail that Freshii had just opened on High St. Less than 3 hours later I was walking through the door. I don’t know what came over me. I was at work and starving, and after taking a quick glance at the menu online I knew I had to have it. Plus it’s a mere ten minute walk from my office, perfect!Slightly overwhelmed by the mass crowd inside the place, and wildly concerned I … read more

Food truck nation is upon us. Following in the footsteps of cities like New York, Miami and Austin, Boston now has quite a nice spread of food trucks that have opened up over the last year or so. Winter Salad | Fennel, Olive and Orange

All winter I’ve been making hot hearty dishes. 2011 thus far has consisted of soup, stew, pasta and potatoes. All the heavyness has started to wear one me, I really needed something light and fresh to balance things out. I came across a fennel and orange salad recipe on Martha Stewart that looked promising. Still not really sure how my browsing led me there, but the site has a lot of creative and easy recipes that utilize seasonal winter produce. … read more

Portuguese Kale and Chorizo Soup

This soup is easy, cheap and delicious. When my brother made a version of it back in September, I was instantly obsessed. He used diced butternut squash instead of potato, a lot of different vegetable combinations in this soup could work as long as you use one key ingredient: apple cider vinegar. It makes the flavor. I made sure to remember that when I recreated¬†Portuguese¬†Kale Soup earlier this week. Apple cider vinegar plus kale makes for a tasty flavor combination, … read more

Ginger Marinated Steak Salad with Jicama

This may have been my most indulgent holiday season yet. Being a foodie around the holidays is dangerous. I think I may have consumed 5x my normal daily calorie intake during the entire month of December. Don’t get me wrong, it was worth every sugar cookie, cheese plate and extra bite of dessert, but it is time to start caring again. Ginger marinated steak salad is what I came up with while perusing Whole Foods. No idea how it happened, … read more

Slacker’s Breakfast | Centre Street Cafe | Jamaica Plain

When driving down Centre Street in JP on any given Saturday or Sunday afternoon one will find a long line outside Centre Street Cafe. For someone like me, who has zero patience for waiting when it comes to being hungry, this is a clear warning flag to turn around immediately. It’s also a clear indication that I will have to come back on some random weekday morning when everyone else who works a 9-5 is presumably occupied, and I can … read more

Founding Farmers | Washington DC | Part 2

Alas, somewhere amidst the busy-ness that is this week, I have found a moment to finally reminisce on the ridiculously good meal I had at Founding Farmers when I was in Washington DC just a couple weeks ago. Now everything I ate in DC was delicious, like I said my sister did well when it came to picking out ideal dining spots for us to nom at, but Founding Farmers… lets just say they were on a whole other level.

The Asparagus Caprese Creation

I’m being healthy and cheap this week. It’s been an expensive summer. Most fun EVER, but expensive. I finally stepped out of the Twilight Zone a few days ago and thought maybe, just mayyyybe it was time to start saving money and making up for eating nonstop. For the past 3 days, my food intake has consisted of: 1 Acai Machine Naked drink, which doesn’t help with the money saving ($4, WTF?!) BUT curbs appetite until 1 pm. 2 Coffees … read more

Summer Lunch | Watermelon Salad | Steelhead Trout

This weekend, 4 friends and I ventured to Plum Island on the North Shore to check out our friend Dave’s super-adorable cottage house. By adorable I mean it belongs in Better Homes Magazine or something, it was precious. We spent Friday night playing card games and drinking margaritas, and Saturday was all about recovering relaxing, and cooking!
