Tres Gatos Redux

It was obvious that when Tres Gatos first opened a year and a half ago (wow time flies) they had a good thing going. We loved it! During the first few months I trekked out to JP a few times for the Barcelona tapas stylings of Chef Marcos. Then, I moved across the city, Kendall Square exploded with new restaurants, and all of the sudden whole year had passed and I hadn’t been back to Tres Gatos.

Sometimes it’s hard to distinguish between a restaurant that’s initially popular because it’s new and exciting and a restaurant that is genuinely great and can stand the test of time. A recent visit to Tres Gatos confirmed that it is the latter. The food was even better than I remembered, each dish was perfectly cooked, tasty, and interesting. It’s easy to see that JP has embraced Tres Gatos as a neighborhood go-to. The scene was fun over there, it was hustling and bustling until at least 10:30 on a Thursday night.

Housemade Pickles - cucumber, garlic, dill and celery seed

Manchego

The thin toasts and jam served with the cheese were the perfect compliment to the tangy Manchego. This dish made me realize I need more Manchego in my life.

tresgatos2_bocadillo

Lamb Bocadillo – chimichurri, crispy shallots, housemade potato roll

Far and away the best dish of the evening, maybe the best lamb burger in the city. Definitely a must order.

tresgatos2_bravas

Patatas Bravas - crispy Yukon gold potatoes, aioli, salsa brava

tresgatos2_steak

Bavette Steak – romesco sauce, fingerling potatoes, artichokes

tresgatos2_churros

Churros & Chocolate – spiced hot chocolate with sugared churros

These churros can stand up to the best of ‘em. I’m looking at you, Toro.

Tres Gatos is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. JP is lucky to have them.

Sidenote: they also have great wine prices. Many bottles priced below 30 bucks!
