Food Porn Friday | Red Velvet Cupcake | Isabelle’s Curly Cakes

As described by Food Porn Daily (only the best site/book EVER) “food porn” is defined as being so close to whatever it is that you’re filming that you can essentially see the items “pores”. Well yesterday I saw those pores, and those pores belonged to none other than the red velvet cupcake at Charles Streets newest bakery. Located amidst all the pricey boutiques and vintage jewelry shops is the cupcake cafe  Curly Cakes, recently opened by Isabelle English, daughter of Boston’s own celebrity chef Todd English.

I know what you’re thinking. You want one right now. Just wait till you click on the image above for a close up.

The frosting was absolutely amazeballs! In a world where calories are only heard of in fairy tales, and obesity is not the leading cause of death, I would be eating spoon-fulls of this stuff religiously. However, the cake itself lacked that excessive moisture and richness that has become so characteristic of red velvet cake. Either way, it was still mind-blowingly delicious and the perfect dessert after my so-so breakfast at Beacon Hill Bistro. When I say that, I am solely referring to the food. Not to be confused with the company, which was great!

And now for your viewing pleasure… more cupcakes! MmmMMmm.

This makes the grocery store donut I had this morning look very pitiful. I am not in Boston often, but I will be seeking this out next time I am there.

So I read all the reviews before I purchased this item. I was so happy to find a carrier that would allow for tall frosting. I decided, after reading the reviews, to not use the handle. I carried from the bottom which caused one of the flimsy locks to disengage and the bottom to fall off. I lost 24 ornate cupcakes destined for a birthday party. I am so angry that I bothered. I had to run to a very expensive cupcake store to buy overpriced and not fresh replacements. This sucker is going back!
